Advocacy Specialist Position
Deaf-Blind Service Center

The Deaf-Blind Service Center (DBSC) is a nonprofit agency that serves Deaf-Blind individuals. DBSC is currently seeking a motivated individual to fill an Advocacy Specialist position.
Deaf-Blind Advocacy Specialist
Responsibilities:
- Manage a busy caseload of Deaf-Blind individuals. Work with a team of advocates/case managers to provide information and referral, technical assistance and problem solving needed to obtain services from private, city and state agencies.
- Educate outside agencies and businesses about Deaf-Blindness through system change advocacy.
- Develop and perform individualized goal plans and needs assessments.
- Write monthly log-notes, report documentation, and participate in projects.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of one year experience working and socializing with Deaf-Blind people.
- A minimum of two years experience working with people in social services.
- Familiarity with state systems and agencies, such as the Social Security Administration, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, and Department of Services for the Blind.
- Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Diverse communication skills using American Sign Language (ASL), tactile ASL, and written English.
- Ability to work successfully with diverse individual clients, families, parents, DBSC staff and outside agency personnel.
- Computer skills using Microsoft Windows, Excel, Outlook, the World Wide Web and Internet.
Desirable Qualifications: BA or MA in a related field. Three years experience working in a nonprofit agency serving Deaf individuals and/or Deaf-Blind people.
Salary: Depending on experience. This is a full-time position 1.0 FTE (37 hours a week). Benefits.
