YOUTH DEAFBLIND WEEKEND DBSC is proud to present Youth DeafBlind Weekend FREE!!! Friday 20th: Saturday 21st: Sunday 22nd: Contact aj granda at fancycane@gmail.com * * * * * * * * * May, 2008 Hello Parents, and others interested in our Deaf-Blind Youth weekend project! Deaf-Blind Service Center (DBSC) is very excited to host our first ever Deaf-Blind Youth Weekend Project. Although most of the members of our community in Seattle are adults, we recognize the importance of having young people as part of our community and are striving to include youths who have Usher Syndrome, and those who are Deaf-Blind. We hope this weekend (June 20th – 22nd) will give you a glimpse into the everyday lives of Deaf-Blind adults, so you are more informed about what is possible, and the options available to you. Cooking together, eating together, and talking with each other will enrich the Seattle Deaf-Blind community, as well as the lives of Deaf-Blind youth. The main objective of this project is to provide an opportunity for Deaf-Blind youth to learn about DB adults’ careers, life choices, and ways of communicating. We would like to invite parents and other family members of Deaf-Blind youth to attend as many events as possible. The weekend will begin with an Ice Breaker at 6:00 pm at DBSC on Friday, June 20. Each DB youth will be assigned to DB adults to spend their nights at their homes for that weekend. From 11:00 am - 3:00 pm on Saturday we will be hosting Deaf-Blind World Day for Deaf-Blind youth. On Saturday night, parents are invited to join us for a BBQ party. Come hungry! On Sunday, June 22nd is DBSC’s annual picnic at Gas Works Park. Families, friends, Deaf-Blind adults, Deaf-Blind youth, dogs, and everyone else, will all gather at Gas Works Park from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm. This event is open to the public, so please bring anyone you like.
